“Biondi’s way with Vivaldi remains beyond criticism, and his work as a soloist here is as alluring as it is on his earlier collections of concertos and sonatas for the violin. Biondi eschews the frenetic approach taken by many period-performance practitioners. The music always is allowed to breathe, and there’s plenty of drama to be had, even though the musicians aren’t rushing Vivaldi off his feet. In an uncrowded field, this CD is a standout”

EDITOR’S NOTES
The eleventh album recorded by Biondi for Virgin Classics is dedicated to the red priest and leaves paths already beaten to explore a series of relatively unknown works: Biondi follows the example of the same Vivaldi performer and replaces his normal violin with a viola d’amore, an instrument with a soft and sensual voice.
