“Biondi takes his cue from Italian opera in the slow movements where the ensemble plays with delightful lyricism and sweetness without ever becoming saccharine. These idiosyncratic performances may not appeal to all tastes but they certainly make a refreshing change from the romantic suavity of some Mozart interpretations.”

EDITOR’S NOTES
In Mozart’s  year, Fabio Biondi enters the field of classical music with three violin concerts played with the vivacity and vigor that characterize him. The five recorded concertos date from Mozart’s late adolescence, when he was a reluctant Konzertmeister of Archbishop Colloredo in Salzburg, and were probably written to showcase all of his solo virtuosity.
The first two pieces are works of great quality, but the concert in G major, more intense and ambitious, shows how the composer takes a leap towards a greater maturity of his musical genius.
